About the Film
'A Little Fellow: The Legacy of A.P. Giannini ' is a feature-length documentary exploring the enduring legacy of A.P. Giannini, a first-generation Italian-American who revolutionized banking and reshaped California's industries in the early 20th century.
A forgotten titan, Giannini's vision empowered working-class Americans and fueled economic recovery through some of the nation's most extreme and challenging times.
Through expert interviews and rare artifacts, A Little Fellow walks us through Giannini's greatest triumphs and struggles. He played a pivotal role in rebuilding San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake, and during the Great Depression, his forward-thinking investments in Hollywood, the Golden Gate Bridge, and companies like Hewlett-Packard spurred growth in a fractured economy
His bank supported the steel and agricultural industries through two world wars and even aided in Europe's reconstruction. This idea was revolutionary at the time when banks primarily catered to the wealthy, leaving small business owners, and laborers without access to capital and safety.
Giannini was a devoted family man, beloved by the people he served, yet feared by Wall Street for challenging the status quo. Committed to serving "the little fellow," he granted loans on a handshake, fostering trust and opportunity for hardworking Americans. His revolutionary approach made banking accessible to all, transforming the Bank of Italy into what would become one of the largest financial institutions in the world-Bank of America.
