Join us in supporting the release of of VERMIGLIO, the Golden Globe nominated, Venice Film Festival Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize winning film from Maura Delpero. It tells the story of a large family in the Italian alps set in 1944 whose lives shift after the arrival of a Sicilian deserter, who develops a romance with the eldest daughter, Lucia. The Daily Beast has called it “the year’s most beautiful film” and The Guardian, “A richly compassionate, emotional and detailed drama of family secrets.”

Set in a small Alpine village during the final days of WWII, Maura Delpero’s Vermiglio is a singular portrait of a family whose lives shift after the arrival of a Sicilian deserter, who develops a romance with the eldest daughter, Lucia. Winner of the Silver Lion at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and Italy’s Official Selection for the 2025 Academy Awards, the film shows the lives of a provincial family in a remote village suspended in time by the customs of a fading era. Conjuring stories from her own family’s past, Delpero creates a deeply personal and human tale that recalls the great neorealist movement in Italian cinema, but through Lucia’s perspective ‘Vermiglio’ feels distinct and novel.

The film opens this Friday at the Roxie in San Francisco - support the film by watching the trailer below!
